Burnt Chocolate

I love Pintrest!  So I decided that the girls and I would try something I pined.

How hard could it be!  Pretzels, Heresy Kisses and M&M's!

It didn't work.  I know my track record.... but really!

It's melting Chocolate people!

Leave it to me.... I don't know why I even bother.

The chocolate crumbled and the M&Ms did not stick in the chocolate.  So I had to google why.  I guess the oven was to warm and it burned it.  Nice...... really nice.  lol  I followed the recipe,  I promise I did.  I am going to try it again, but next time I'm trying a different temperature.

Deviled Eggs... help!!

I've never made deviled eggs.  Well, I think I did once but I can't remember when it was!  So for the last two weeks I've been trying to peel these hard boil eggs!

I've talked to several people and I have tried many different methods over the last few weeks.  Still no luck.  What is wrong with me!  Who ever heard of a pastors wife who can't even hard boil eggs!  Everyone knows I can't cook but come on!!

So you know what my problem was!  lol  Fresh eggs!  I got an email from a lady at our church who did some research and come to find out fresh eggs do not hard boil well.  I bought some eggs at the store and tried the experiment, and they looked amazingly perfect!  The eggs need to be at least 2 weeks old!  Our chickens lay about 4 eggs a day.  I  guess I'll be holding on to them a little long before I use them to make deviled eggs.  Who ever heard of a fresh egg being to fresh!!??

I guess I'm not a dumb at I thought I was!

I got the Butt End of the Joke!

Paul volunteered at the school today for vision testing.  He asked me to bring Pizza for lunch for the 4 of us. I stopped at Little Ceasers for a Hot and Ready Pizza.  I bought gummy worms to put on top it!  I just thought that that would be such a cute little trick for April Fools day.  And mind you it would have been if it had worked!

Turns out the joke was on me.  Who knew that they would melt all over the pizza and leave green, yellow and red goo all over the top!  ewwww

This mother can never win when it come to food!

Forgot Something

This pastor's wife is not a Paula Dean, nor a Rachel Ray.   Which I am totally fine with.  Perhaps if I just could make something well,  it'd at least feel good about myself!  In case you're wondering why my cake didn't turn out.  It was because there was a missing ingredient.  You know that stuff that makes the cake rise!

So any idea what the pastors wife should bring to a get together... something simple and easy.  You should probably recommend something you don't have to cook.  It's so cheesy to just bring chips and dip!

Homemade Cinnamon Roll

I can't believe I made these.... I know what your thinking!  There's no way that Jessica made those.  Did you see the last cake she made from scratch!! lol

My friend Julie invited me and my friend Hether over to her mothers house.  Her mom showed us how to make homemade cinnamon rolls.  Every mom should know how to do this!

These are Lillie's little friends.

Enjoying the sweet treats!

Lou and I have eaten them all day long.  They were so yummy!

Now we just have to see if I can make them by myself.  That will be the real test!  I'll keep you all posted!

If only I could cook!

Where there's smoke, there's toast.  Well it's not that I burn food, it just never turns out.  We'll maybe sometimes I burn things.  Like my Lasagna 2 weeks ago!  But that's beside the point.  I just can't cook!  Give me any thing that does not have to be cooked or baked and I do great!!!

I don't get it.  I try.  That cake up there,  I somehow forgot the ingredient to make it rise.  If you think that's bad I'll have you know that I made that same Texas Sheet Cake the night before and it also went into the garbage because the frosting was sticky!

My mom told me when I was growning up that I needed to learn how to cook before I got married.  I told not that I'd learn as I needed to.  Well 13 year later and I still have to call my mom to see how long it takes to cook a roast in the oven.

I guess some women have it and others don't... my poor family.   If anyone want's to have us over for dinner that would be great! lol

Joe's Gizzard City

You know how you never do anything in your own town.   It happened to me. Today on our way home from Mississippi we stopped in Potterville Michigan at Joe's Gizzard City.   I grew up in Charlotte which is about 5 miles away.  My first job was at the Potterville elementary school as a gymnastic spotter for little kids.

This place is so famous that it was on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives!  Of course I would have never know that because no way in a million years would I even try a gizzard...  so why would I know that it was there? Plus I was to young.

I've married this crazy husband and he seen this on the food channel,   so you know where we headed. How convenient, we were going right by it on our way home.

First off it's kinda dirty, small and smokey.   I'm not sure they've heard about the no smoking policy in most restaurants these days, because of this we had to sit on the patio.  Paul of course had the gizzard because what's a trip to Gizzard City if you don't have the gizzards!  I had the deep fried hamburger and onions rings.  Oh and for dessert, more deep fried food. ..deep fried Oreos and deep fried Nutter Butters.   The oreo were my favorite, you dipped them in chocolate.  I did try one tiny piece of Paul gizzards.  Not bad, but I'm not having a plate of them.

So we left feeling full of deep fried food and feeling a little greasy, but it's the experience that was most important.  Check that off the list of places we've been!

The secret to No Bake Cookies

No Bake cookies are my all time favorite cookie, well except for those cheep sugar cookies that you get in the plastic container at the store with about 1" of frosting and sprinkles on them. YUM!

My No Bakes never turn out, always dry, all ways crumbly, never perfect! I boil them for 1 minute, i've tried 2 and 5 minutes.  Still always the same.  Until now.  The other day when we were speaking at church I was eating more than one of these cookie, and a Lady was watching me.   I told the lady that these were the best I've ever had,  She said Great and that she made them.  She told me the secret to making good No Bakes is a 1/2 of bag of marshmallows!

Crazy!  Maybe you do this but I've never heard of such a thing.  All you do is use your normal recipe and add the 1/2 bag of  marshmallows when you add the oats.  They turned out perfect last night :)

My goal is not to put on those 7 pounds that I lost during the fast!   I'm limiting myself to one cookie  after lunch and 1 after dinner!!

Manna from Heaven

This here is another essential item that I've used almost everyday so far on our Daniel Fast. One of those items that I've had and not really used to it's potential!!  It's only $15.00.  I must say... Why haven't I used this thing more.  It's so quick and easy to chop up everything to throw in a pot to make veggie soup.
Were over half way since we've started our fast.  Cravings for me have not been bad.  I've not really wanted the Dr. Pepper that I usually have once a week, or even a yummy piece of chocolate. We'll maybe just a cookie!  What I've found is that I just never seem to be full.  You know like the Chinese buffet, when you eat until your full and about 1 hour later you feel hungry again?  For a snack, I really don't fell like another apple or a slice of cucumber.  That's what's been hard for me.  I'm not a big fruit eater nor a big veggie person, unless I can dip it in Ranch :)  No can do :(

It made me think the other day when Moses was in the Wilderness. God was so alive and right in front of them whether it be a cloud by day or a fire by night. It's was amazing to me that the people would even dare to complain.  God was taking care of them, sending them food from heaven everyday.  Numbers 11:6  "But now our soul is dried up: there is nothing at all to be seen but this manna."  The people were tired of the same old stuff.  Can you image eating manna for all those years?  Every meal?   The bible says it tasted like cakes with fresh oil.  It had to be better than brussels sprouts :(

Anyway, the story of the children in the wilderness are what I thought of the other day when I didn't want to eat another cucumber nor an apple!  Shame on me.

Praying for the Lords direction with our family.

We love our VitaMix

We purchased a VitaMix 2 years ago.  It was a big purchase for us and we were sooo excited. This machine is amazing!  It makes everything from hot soups to ice cream.  We have not used it to it's potential over the last 2 years.   That is until this week.

The Daniel Fast has caused us to do some major re-eating!  I've made hummus, peanut-butter, fruit smoothies, tomato soup . . .  with my Vitamixer.  I think the greatest sacrifice for me is the budget!!!  On an Evangelist salary it tuff.   It cost so much to eat healthy, so many fruits and veggies.   My family will make some changes after the 21 day fast.  We will try to do better, to be a healthier family.

Hey, good news...
Paul has only had one head ache, the second day of the fast.  He loves his coffee :)  I'm glad I'm not a coffee addict! It's my goal never to be.

If anyone has any good recipes I would be grateful.  I've made a few really good bean soups.  The only thing missing.  A warm slice of cornbread!
